When it Doesn’t Make Sense - What Can We Do?
I think everyone of us at time tries to make sense out of what happens in our lives. There is even a greater challenge and that is to make sense out of what is happening in the world around us.
A great scripture from the Phillips translation in 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 says, “We are handicapped on all sides, but we are never frustrated; we are puzzled but never in despair. We are persecuted, but we never have to stand it alone: we may be knocked down but we are never knocked out!” (Phillips Translation)
I’ve learned when things don’t make sense in my life I try to recognize my frustrations. If you are like I am when things are going crazy around me I start getting frustrated because I can’t always fix things.
The second thing I do when things don’t make sense, I try to realize my limitations. There are some things that are beyond my control and I have to look to God and realize it is God’s job and not mine. Boy, that’s hard for me because I want to be super pastor. When I realize my limitations and allow God to help during difficult times, I am able to walk in peace and rest in my spirit everyday.
The third thing I do when things don’t make sense - I have to realign my revelation. Paul the apostle said in Phil. 2:13; “It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. It’s hard but I have to refocus and realign myself in order to receive a new revelation of what God is doing during these times.
The last thing I do when things don’t make sense is remember my destination. This place is not my home! I know I want my life to matter and make a difference here on earth. I must remember my final destination is heaven.
When hard times come and you can’t make sense out of it remember these four areas can bring hope, encouragement and faith to your life.
